CHRISTIAN AID WEEK 11 – 17 May 2008

Website www.christianaidweek.org

Christian Aid week is seven amazing days of fund-raising, campaigning and worship.   It unites 300,000 people in the UK’s biggest house-to-house collection.

It inspires hundreds of events, brings together thousands of churches and reaches millions of people with messages about poverty. And most importantly it helps people in poor communities around the world change their lives. Will you be part of this by joining the collecting team in the Offington area? Please sign up on the board in the church foyer.

The annual Christian Aid service is at St Andrew’s Church, Tarring on Thursday 8 May at 7.30pm.

SUNDAY LUNCH

There will be a lunch on Sunday 11 May at 12.30pm (all proceeds to Christian Aid ) which Betty Marris and team are kindly preparing. The cost will be a minimum of £5, (reduced price for children), if you would like to go, please give your name to the church office by 4 May or to Betty on W 262074 by Friday 9 May.

Door to door collecting is from 11 May to 17 May. Would you sign up to do a road in the Offington area ? The Road List will be in the church foyer from 13 April.

Every year we need extra collectors to cover the streets listed on the left. Some of last year’s collectors are not able to help us this year so if you have not collected before please contact Chris or Liz Lance who will be happy to explain to you what to do. One street allocation should take you about half an hour to distribute envelopes and two hours to collect them.

Last year I remember feeling the envelopes I was collecting and guessing I would have collected about £50 and just wondering what good that would do. Other members of our church were doing the same thing and we collected over £3,000 in donations. In Worthing as a whole this multiplied to £25,500 and as there were 300,000 other people in other Protestant churches (the Catholic church have a separate organisation) also collecting, a total of £14,100,000 was raised . It’s staggering to see how drops become a ocean.
.
This week of collecting money door to door is the single most important source of income for Christian Aid and we should do our bit and make sure we cover all the roads we have been allocated so that we maximise the revenue for the charity
