75th anniversary family service         <return to BBQ

The service to mark the end of our 75th anniversary celebration was a family service based on the theme of building firm foundations in Jesus Christ. We look to the young families in our church to carry us to our centenary, in 25 years time!

I can remember celebrating our 50th anniversary and thinking how much we in Offington Park owe to all the people who have been involved in establishing this church and making it what it is today. Check out the church history page.

ann and jackIt was fitting that our minister, James, took time during the service to publicly thank two senior stewards who have just completed their 3-year term of office. A large church like Offington Park relies on their stewards to be the public front of the church and to encourage new members to find their place within the church. James especially thanked Anne Green and Jack Russell for making the change of minister at Offington so easy.

During the service the minister invited the children to blow down a stack of cards, a pyramid of cups and then an uneven wall of bricks. His point was that although the bricks didn’t fit neatly together, it was impossible to make them collapse. He likened our church to the bricks; we are nowhere near perfect and we have many rough edges but we can get together and provide an acceptable structure. Especially if we use a cement of Grace , Fellowship, Worship , Love and Jesus Christ.

The service concluded with balloons cascading down from the back of the church where coffee and Church Mouse’s anniversary cake was shared by everybody.
