Eco news
is the new heading under which Offington Environmental issues can be aired.

Martin Chance, John Turberville, Betty Marris, James Bamber, Matthew
Earl and Chris Lance have formed a steering group to progress the Offington ministry on environmental issues, showing that we care for God’s world. Our aim is to gain an Eco-congregation award in due course.
This does not mean that other people can’t introduce and follow through
Environmental ideas at Offington. We need to be able to record what environmental initiatives have been achieved to go towards the eco-congregation award.
We are starting the process by reviewing the following areas:-
- Exploring God’s green world through teaching.
- Greening the purse strings. Management of financial, catering, and purchasing matters.
- Green choices. Information and suggestions to green personal life styles.
Starting in January there will be an Eco stand after the morning service on the 4th Sunday in the month, where you
will be able to make suggestions, and ask questions on Eco issues.

Electricity is mainly generated in this country by burning gas or coal, both these methods use stored energy built up in the earth over thousands
of years, and then released it into the atmosphere over a very short period of time. This contributes to heating the atmosphere (global warming). Here are a few easy ways to reduce electricity consumption,
and also save money.
- Only boil enough water in the kettle for what you need.
- Use energy efficient bulbs (75% more efficient) where practicable, and switch off when not needed.
- Fit movement detectors to outside lights.
- Don’t leave appliances on standby, they can use up 85% of the fully switched on power.
- Buy energy efficient appliances.
- Tumble driers use a great deal of electricity, where possible dry clothes outside (they will also feel fresher)
