Kisiizi collection

From Carol and Cliff Finch,       Shipments have to stop !!

We have just received confirmation from Medical Missionary News that they are unable to continue sending our goods to Uganda. This has come about because the Ugandan Authorities are insisting that all goods meet strict criteria. In the past MMN have been able to overcome the difficulties that the authorities impose. This time, however, no such agreement could be reached. Hence the decision by MMN to cease deliveries to Uganda.

MMN have offered to send all goods in the pipeline to other charitable causes in neighbouring countries and this solution is being explored.

The Trustees of Knitting for Kisiizi meet next week to determine the charity’s future. Consequently , at the moment, everything is on hold and it seems likely that this work may have to cease.

Naturally we are devastated by this news given that the people who suffer as a consequence are the babies, children, patients, doctors and nurses at Kisiizi Hospital in Uganda.

We will advise you further on any decisions that are made and would value your prayers in the meantime.

The minibus is still big enough to contain all the knitting that had to go to the Medical Missionary News Representative last week but only just. Cliff and I took 38 boxes , 7 boxes from St. Matthews and 31 from Offington.

A big thank you to everybody who is supporting Kisiizi:
Cornerstone, Goring, Offington, Southwick and Steyning Methodist Churches, Durrington LEP and Upper Beeding Baptist Church, The Holy Family Roman Catholic Church, Sanderstead, St Andrew and St Cuthman, Steyning and Flowergate United Reform Church, Whitby. Thanks also to the knitters of Edenbridge Afternoon Women’s Institute, Dingemans Court Steyning and all friends and their work colleagues who support us so wonderfully.

Donations of money are also appreciated as we have committed to paying for the shipment of the boxes as well. Currently it is £20 per box. This shipment has completely exhausted all our resources and we need to raise the necessary £600 for the next shipment by November.

The Details of the shipments are set out in the table below:

November 2009 shipment.

After the long delay at the beginning of this year with shipments, it is good to report the November shipment has left on time. Cliff and I took a further 25 boxes of knitting down to the Medical Missionary Representative at Burwash. There were 13 boxes from Offington and 12 from St. Matthews. The details of the consignment are listed at the bottom of the page.

This year we have supplied the babies and children of Kisiizi with 45 boxes of your knitteds and gifts. Truly wonderful! Each box now costs £20 to send. Donations during the year amounted to £1251: 30 of which £930 was spent on transportation costs. Thank you for your kindness

GardenPartyThe Garden Party raised sufficient funds to ship the next consignment

A big thank you to Betty and all the friends who made our Garden Party on 22 August such a happy occasion. The amazing total of £489:30 was raised for Kisiizi. This will ensure that we have sufficient funds for our next consignment of boxes to be sent to Uganda. Each banana box costs £20 to send.
We anticipate taking more boxes to the Medical Missionary News Representative at the end of the year. (Medical Missionary News is responsible for the container lorries in which our gifts are packed).
Thank you for your continued support for the babies and children of Kisiizi.

Carol and Cliff.

Update August 2009 - We are receiving 3 vests a day from our faithful knitting community!

In May we had eighteen boxes of knitting ready to ship but the missionary society was having trouble importing it into Kenya. Happily the blockage has now cleared and the shipment has finally left the U.K. Thanks to the delay the total number of boxes had grown to thirty two boxes !

As the knitting from friends in and around the circuit has grown we have been asked by the Honorary Treasurer of Knitting for Kisiizi to be responsible for all the packing and container costs of our own banana boxes. We will still come under the aegis of Knitting for Kisiizi.

When Cliff and I returned from our holidays we received an urgent message to take all our knitteds and gifts to a Medical Missionary News representative in Burwash who would then deliver them to the waiting container ship in Felixstowe. As we had 32 boxes packed, needing new labelling, we had a hectic week to meet the shipment date.

Thank you for your wonderful support of Kisiizi. The details of the shipment are in the table at the top of the page

Offington Park Methodist Church have also donated £500 from their recent Gift Day. We received £170 from our talks around the circuit. Many thanks for your generosity.

The extras in this consignment were:
A tea towel, 5 lengths of material, 4 machine wool cones, several pillow cases, one reel of cotton, leggings, 2 pairs of socks, a pair of trousers, a pair of pants, a blouse and knitted top, Bible study notes, colouring pencils and pens, knitting needles, 2 children’s dresses, sewing and knitting aids and patterns.

Our thanks to the following churches who have helped us reach this amazing total - Cornerstone, Goring, North Cave (East Yorkshire), Offington Park, Southwick and Steyning Methodist Churches, Durrington LEP and Upper Beeding Baptist Church.

Thank you to the knitters of Dingemans Court in Steyning and also to the many acquaintances who have shared their patterns and enthusiasm with work colleagues and friends who now support us.

Thank you so much for the support you have given Kisiizi. Wonderful!
