News from the Eco Group 2012
T he Eco Group are introducing two new initiatives for the church family and local community.
Water Shortage A ban on the use of hose pipes has been introduced so please use your water sparingly. Now may be time to consider installing a water butt attached to a down pipe. Church Gardens The side gardens of the church are in need of re-stocking. If you are ‘thinning out’ your garden we welcome small shrubs or any plants which are regarded as ‘water wise’. Please let the Eco Group know as planting needs to be undertaken as soon as possible. Solar Energy Solar panels have now been fixed to the south side of the church roof. The benefit will be to provide energy to the national grid thud helping to reduce our carbon footprints. At the same time a financial payment will be forthcoming for church funds in due course. E-on —Proposed wind farm E-on an energy company is developing proposals for an off-shore.wind farm located around 13 km from the Sussex coast at the nearest point. The Rampion Offshore System could generate enough electricity for the domestic needs of the equivalent of around 450,000 homes each year. That’s more than two thirds of the homes in the whole of Sussex, including Brighton and Hove. Information including two CD-ROMS (for computers) is available in the church vestibule.. Look out for the orange booklet. Collectables The following is a list of articles for recycling in the vestibule: Plastic milk bottle tops CDs and DVDs Spectacles Batteries Mobile Phones Print Cartridges Stamps Energy Saving — use the car less We may love our cars and need them for all sorts of reasons but fuel prices are rising, roads are congested and air pollution affects our health. Cutting your car journeys by just 5 miles a week could save you around £50 a year in fuel costs alone and help to save 85 kg in CO2 in fuel emissions. We have a need to make our planet greener. Now for a challenge: if you live within a mile of the church why not leave it at home or give a regular lift to our friend or neighbour? You know it makes sense.
