Thoughts on joining the eco project

There are established practical ways to move forward, one being to apply for eco-congregation status, where the management of the church operation is assessed; some things, like recycling, we already do. We are hoping to get someone from an established eco-congregation church to talk about their experience.

I recently saw people interviewed soon after the Church of England had announced that environmental issues were high on its agenda. The comment was that this was the first time this particular person had heard the church say anything relevant to modern society. What a wonderful way this could be for Offington to engage with the local community when it’s noticed that there are solar panels on the roof of the AFH.

There is an organisation called “eco-congregation” which has a programme designed to help churches get to grips with green issues. It begins with a church check -up, which looks at different areas of church life. Typically the areas would be:

* Christian teaching

* Practical aspects, which would include the church property and organisations.

*Exploring links between personal/community lifestyles, and their global impact.

If you believe Christianity has things to say on these issues please come along to this informal discussion .
