Stephen Kanja Water Project       <back to Jackie’s report              15th August 2007

This report covers the period from 13th July to date in which time there has been a vast amount of progress. All the vegetation around the water tank at the spring has been cleared and the plastering of the walls of the tank is complete. The excavated area shall be laid with concrete, sand and hardcore. The water from the spring will pass through this area, it will be slightly purified by the time it reaches the storage tank just below. The tank will now be covered with a concrete slab, a channel from the source of the spring will be dug and the tank will be ready to hold the water.

The first water tank at the school has been converted from square to round for increased stability, as the ground up in Mijamboni is uneven with very fine sands and square tanks in the area have been known to collapse. The foundation level stones have been laid down; it is 12 meters in diameter and shall be 3 meters in height.

Another concrete water tank has been demolished next to classroom D, here a plastic tank shall store water on tap for immediate use.
