The water storage tank at the spring

The water storage tank, which is situated down the hill form the school, is almost complete.

This tank is 24ft x 10ft x 6ft deep and has been covered with a 4-inch concrete slab. The concrete slab has two manholes in case any internal repairs are required. It also contains vent pipes, which will be covered in netting to prevent any foreign objects falling into the tank. There will be an inlet pipe from the spring and trough allowing the water to flow into the storage tank. There are two overflow pipes coming out of the end wall, which ensure the tank does not overflow as there is no valve to monitor the flow of water into the tank.

The tank will be constantly filling up and any excess water will flow out of these, and anyone from the surrounding community will be able to collect the water.
Steps have been constructed going down towards the tank where there shall be three taps from which the school children and community members will be able to collect their water straight from the tank.

The main school water tank

Work has begun on building the water storage tank at the school and the 4-inch concrete slab cover.

This water tank has been plastered and a central supporting pole in the middle has been constructed to support the 4-inch concrete slab that will be placed on top. This tank is 40ft diameter and 10ft in height, and it will hold 120,000ltrs of water

Renovation of the school roofs and catchment system

The roof of classroom block B has been completely removed and two layers of concrete blocks have built around the perimeter of the classroom roofs to support the structure of the new roof.

The original roof gable was on the front of the building, but it has now been relocated to the side of the building so that the entire new roof will slope in the same direction and make the catchment of water in the gutters more efficient.

All corrugated iron sheets have now been taken off this roof and two layers of coral blocks set around the perimeter, which will support the new framework and corrugated iron sheets.

The door of the nursery classroom has had a new lintel placed above the door as the gable has been moved from the front side of the classrooms to the right hand side. The veranda to this block of classrooms is also being renovated with new pillars and a new concrete floor. The overlap of the roof will cover the veranda and the guttering will be placed at the end of the new corrugated sheets.
